Perrigo recommends Ci-DMS Manufacturing Execution System (MES)

Perrigo is a contract manufacturer working in partnership with major pharmaceutical, healthcare & grocery companies. It is the world’s largest manufacturer of OTC & Healthcare medicines, both branded and private label. The OTC medicines manufactured at Perrigo Devon are primarily focused on the cough/cold market and are in both liquid and solid dose form. Perrigo chose CI Precision’s computerised dispensing MES module for its UK manufacturing facility. Kathryn Rutter, Production Manager comments,

The Ci-DMS weigh & dispense module of CI Precision’s MES met these criteria. Kathryn added,

“The key objective was to reduce or eliminate manual errors. Since installing Ci-DMS we have reported nil errors.”

Ci-DMS is used to control the weighing and dispensing of pharmaceutical starter materials in three dispensing booths according to GAMP principles. A specially configured interface links Ci-DMS to the company’s ERP system. This receives transactions for material lots and process orders from the ERP system and returns transactions for material movement / consumption. The interface also sends back stock adjustments to ensure that the ERP inventory is accurately maintained. Ci-DMS is a Commercial Off-The-Shelf (COTS) system with pre-validated core software which enables fast implementation. Perrigo also chose a turnkey implementation, with CI providing site validation assistance which minimised utilisation of local resources. Features of particular benefit to Perrigo included the electronic batch record and the ability to weigh multiple packs on a pallet simultaneously and uniquely label each of these packs with a dispensed label. For a system to be effective it should also be user friendly, a sentiment endorsed by Paul Thorne, Dispensary Operator, who stated,

“I love this new system; it’s so easy to operate.”

The ability to produce automated reports and comprehensive logs, enabling full traceability and easy auditing, are features that the Production Manager particularly likes. Kathryn Rutter concludes,

“I am very happy with our choice of product and supplier and would recommend Ci-DMS to others who want to improve their operations and quality.”
